On Sunday I participated in the Allstate Hot Chocolate 15K race in San Francisco.
I heard a lot of great things about this race including the free active winter jacket in your goodie bag, awesome medal, free photos, and of course the chocolate (lot’s of it). So last year, at the SF Giants expo, I went for it and signed up!
Saturday morning I went to the expo, picked up my bib and goodie bag (reusable drawstring bag). In my bag I got my race swag—a quarter-zip jacket.
The jacket’s thumb holes and four-way stretch fabric make it perfect for wintertime running or casual wear. Even when the hot chocolate runs out, this is going to be a race goodie that will definitely keep me warm long after crossing the finish line.
And if your jacket doesn’t fit right you can exchange it for another size for free.
At the expo I also bought some merchandise…
On race morning I drove up to San Francisco State University, parked the car, and took a shuttle to the starting line.
I don’t typically like to check-in a bag, but if you do like to bring extra gear, I would recommencement coming early. The line for bag check was very long when I arrived 15 min before the start of the race.
We ran through Golden Gate Park for miles 1, 2, and 3, then onto Great Hwy for miles 4, 5 and 6 and then back to through Golden Gate Park for the last 3 miles.
At the finish line we were handed water, Nuun water, and our medal.
Now let’s talk about the Chocolate…I promise, you won’t have to worry about meeting your week’s chocolate quota (if there is such a thing) because you’ll get loads of chocolate at the expo, through out the course, and at the finish line.
At the finish line you’ll rip off the bottom part of your bib and exchanged it for a Hot Chocolate finishers mug that comes loaded with fondue and hot chocolate, marshmallows, pretzels, Rice Krispies Treats, a cookie and a banana for dipping.
Now, I really see why the Hot Chocolate races are so popular, they’re a lot of fun and super sweet!
