I don’t have many races left for 2018 – I’ve got the Giant Race in San Francisco in September and my first relay, Ragnar Relay, in November.
My Team, The Turtle and a Hara, and I will be running from San Francisco to Napa Valley, a total of 183.9 miles.
For those of you not very familiar with a Ragnar Relay here’s how it works:
Teams pile into 12- passenger mini-vans and tag team 180’s miles, relay-style over two days and one night. Only one runner hits the road at a time. Each participant runs three times, with each leg ranging between 3-13 miles and varying in difficulty.
We’ve already chosen our legs and I’ll be running the longest one, a total of 22.7 miles (5.3 miles, 4.2, and the last one 13.2).
I’ve shared this with my family and some of my closest friends and I made the announcement on my Instagram story jyesterday. Most of the responses I got back are exactly what you are reading in the image below…
This is my first relay race and although the distance and running in the dark might seem crazy I’m super excited to be participating. I’m excited to be running with a team, running in the dark, running through San Francisco, and finishing in Napa. This will be my first race in Napa and I’m already looking forward to some wine after the race.
I’ve done a fair amount of research and have read the good, bad, and ugly, so I feel like I have an idea of what to expect, but if you’ve participated in a relay and have any advice please share it with me! I would love to hear from others who have participated in relays like this one.
