If you know me well, you know I’m someone who gets overwhelmed easily. I tend to overthink and overanalyze, which then leads me to fee overwhelmed, anxious, and stressed. I’ve especially noticed this happens right before I take a trip.
I haven’t shared much about organizing my thoughts and life – two of the main things I do when I’m feeling overwhelmed but I’ve learned that these are the things I really need to share with others because more than likely some of you struggle with this too! So I’m going to start sharing more of about this in the future.
Organize Your Mind
This is one of the most helpful tips I can give (in my experience). Usually when overwhelm hits, it’s because I have too many tabs open in my brain (and probably my computer too LOL). To quiet the noise a little bit I like to take a step back and try a brain dump.
Organize Your Surroundings
I put this one second because I know it’s not always possible to completely stop what you’re doing and clean your house or your office/desk, but definitely make it a priority for when you do have some time. Maybe wake up a little early or stay 20 minutes late at the office to tidy up. And the same goes for your home because overwhelm happens more places than just work in my experience. I function much better when my home and work environment is organized and neat so take some time to get physically organized as well as mentally.
Go for a Walk or Run
And last but not least, go for a walk! This is old faithful for me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, anxious, sad – whatever it is, a walk or run ALWAYS helps. I think I love it because it gives me some mental and physical distance from whatever is weighing me down. Coming home afterward I always feel more clear-headed. It’s honestly one of the best things I do for myself on a daily basis.
